Feliway: A Key to Feline Emotional Well-Being
Is your cat stressed? Clearly, Kit here is out of his mind with worry. But while he was caught in a nice moment of zen in this photo, he is actually a very stressy guy.
One of the tricks I’ve learned in my 10 years in veterinary medicine, both as a tech and now a doctor, is to use a lovely product called Feliway for stressed out kitties!
Feliway is a noteworthy product in the realm of feline well-being. This non-prescription pheromone-based solution stands as a sentinel for the emotional balance of our feline companions. Its mechanism involves emulating the pheromones secreted by cats from their cheek glands. By doing so, it marks the surfaces it comes into contact with as “safe.”
Consider Feliway as an intangible bulwark that whispers reassurance to your cat, assuring them that their surroundings are free of threats. This artificial pheromone can be harnessed during periods of heightened stress, such as vet visits or as a source of daily solace in your cat’s favored spaces. Feliway is available in various formats, including a collar, a spray, and a room plug-in. Each of these offers a month’s duration of utility, granting you a choice in tailoring its application. For issues local to a specific room, employing the plug-in and, perhaps, the spray is most prudent. If the challenge appears more intrinsic to the cat itself, the collar is the wiser selection, occasionally supplemented by judicious application of the spray on select objects like their bedding or scratching post.
